Math & Computer Science

Who will be tutoring my child?

My name is Lindsay Summers.  I am a mathematics teacher and a world traveler…

I have a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and a Masters Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education – this means I have a very strong background in math, have a very deep understanding of the content, and my specialization is working with older students [5th grade through college] and upper-level math courses, but I can of course tutor students as young as, perhaps, 7 or 8 years old.

I taught for a few years in the state of Virginia, but then decided to expand on my pedagogy and take a look at what other teachers were doing all over the world. I traveled the world for over one year and then returned to the US where I taught a college math class in Seattle.

Why are you not teaching in a school?

As previously mentioned, I am a world traveler who tries to visit as many schools as a I can in order to learn more about education; education and travel are both, equally, my life.

I just recently taught Computer Science, full-time, all of last year. I really love both Math and Computer Science, so I really want to branch out and build my own “classes” that incorporate both areas of study into one fun environment. Not many schools have classes where I can teach both subjects in one school year. Therefore, tutoring is the best option right now; tutoring is flexible but also brings me the joy of teaching, working with children, and helping students improve their Math and Computer Science skills..
