Secondary Math Education
5th grade through college
Who will be tutoring my child?
My name is Lindsay Summers. I am a mathematics teacher and a world traveler…
I have a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and a Masters Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education – this means I have a very strong background in math, have a very deep understanding of the content, and my specialization is working with older students [5th grade through college] and upper-level math courses, but I can of course tutor students as young as, perhaps, 7 or 8 years old.
I taught for a few years in the state of Virginia, but then decided to expand on my pedagogy and take a look at what other teachers were doing all over the world. I traveled the world for over one year and then returned to the US where I taught a college math class in Seattle.
Why are you not teaching in a school?
As previously mentioned, I am a world traveler who tries to visit as many schools as a I can in order to learn more about education; education and travel are both, equally, my life.
I was just finished teaching abroad (in Mallorca, Spain), this past winter and now I am back in the US ready to continue my love of teaching! However, it’s an awkward time of year to get a full-time teaching position. Therefore, tutoring is the best option right now; tutoring is flexible but also brings me the joy of teaching, working with children, and helping students improve their math skills..
